Our Memphis team on Poplar Avenue has been serving the Mid-South community for decades, with some client and carrier relationships dating back to the 1970s. Mathis, Tibbets and Mathis was founded in 1986 as a commercial and personal property/casualty, surety bonds and employee benefits agency. In the spring of 2022, the MTM team joined Higginbotham, gaining access to additional resources, markets and financial services to help enhance the overall client experience.

As part of the Higginbotham family, our team of Memphis insurance and benefits brokers leverage these additional resources while continuing to offer the same local, people-first service that’s always defined us. Perhaps the best embodiment of our people-first philosophy was Mary Hinck Tibbets, one of our founding principals, whose legacy, following her passing in 2023, continues to inspire our dedication to service and community.

Gene Mathis

Gene brings more than 45 years of insurance and bond expertise to his clients. He holds Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designations, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in the insurance field. Gene utilizes his knowledge and experience to help clients secure personal insurance, surety bonds, commercial insurance and employee benefits.

Alex has over 15 years of experience in commercial and personal insurance, employee benefits, health insurance and surety bonding. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from Spring Hill College and a Master in Business Administration from Christian Brothers University.

He is active with the Insurors of Memphis, having served on the Board of Directors for many years.
