Dr. Sam Ritter joined Higginbotham as Medical Director for Employee Benefits in 2026. As the firm’s first in-house medical director, he partners with our self-funded clients to help manage complex medical claims, provide clinical insight into population health trends and address rising medical costs while serving as an educational resource for our team and clients.

A practicing emergency room physician at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center, Sam remains closely connected to patient care. His ability to quickly assess situations and communicate effectively with people from all walks of life is vital when supporting employers making high-stakes health care decisions for their employees.

Before his current role, Sam served as Vice President and Medical Director at Elysium Health, where he led clinical strategy and health product development and collaborated across multiple teams. His previous experience also includes roles as a Physician Specialist at McKinsey & Company, Emergency Department Medical Director at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waxahachie, Texas, and Attending Emergency Medicine Specialist at Landspitali University Hospital in Iceland.

Sam earned his bachelor’s degree from Princeton University, his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine and his Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He and his wife, Jasmine, have three daughters, a Bernedoodle named Lucy and a Quaker Parrot named Lola. Outside of work, Sam enjoys exercising, rowing, traveling and spending time with his family. A native of Jacksonville, Florida, he remains an avid Jaguars fan.
