He quickly became a Managing Director with a concentration in the following industries: Large Property (Retail/Industrial), Life Science (Biotech), Manufacturing, Social Service, Schools, Food Manufacturing & Restaurants. In addition to maintaining a book of business consisting primarily of large accounts, Matt co-founded Higginbotham’s specialty Life Sciences Risk & Insurance Practice, which provides industry-specific coverage to pharmaceutical/medical device companies. Since joining Higginbotham, he has participated in the firm’s Mentor program as a mentor to new producers starting their insurance careers.
Before joining Higginbotham in 2000, Matt was president of a Tarrant County community bank holding company. He started his career as a loan and compliance officer for Lake Worth National Bank and Foster Mortgage Corporation.
As a Texas native and Fort Worth resident since 1980, Matt has served on the board of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. He has been involved with First United Methodist Church, The Warm Place, Fort Worth Youth Soccer, Fort Worth Ballet, Christ Chapel Bible Church, and Harris Hospital Health Exchange. Matt served five years on the Independent Insurance Agents of Tarrant County (IIATC) and was elected president from 2018-2019. In 2010 he was the recipient of Higginbotham’s C. Douglas Dickson Award for most significant revenue growth and has been Higginbotham’s Legacy Award winner for ten consecutive years of high growth. He and his wife, Joni, have two children and several grandchildren.
Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration/finance from Texas Christian University. He is a licensed General Lines Property and Casualty Agent in Texas with designations as a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC).
Brian Toglia has spent a decade focused on the life science industry. He has participated at industry events as a subject matter specialist on topics such as cyber liability, supply chain risk management, global clinical trials and 21 CFR Part 11. He currently represents 140+ clients across the globe in all stages of development, from start-up to clinical stage to commercialization. His consultative approach and experience allow for a unique perspective on a company’s operation to identify and address current needs and anticipate future areas of risk. His involvement allows C-suite executives to focus on growing their company while Higginbotham is their trusted insurance and risk advisor.
Before joining Higginbotham, Brian was President and CEO of Galiot Insurance Services, a boutique insurance brokerage focused exclusively on the life science industry. He founded Galiot at the end of 2017 after leaving an ownership role at a New York-based insurance brokerage, where he started a life science practice in 2012. Higginbotham acquired Galiot at the end of 2019 when Brian assumed the role of Life Science Practice Leader. Brian has spent 17 years in the insurance industry on the agency/broker side.
Brian currently serves on the life science producer council of two nationally recognized insurance carriers: Berkley Life Sciences and The Hartford. He previously served on the Board of the MedTech Association in New York. Brian is heavily involved in two industry trade associations that advocate for the life science industry: BIO Houston and Colorado BIO Science Association (CBSA). Also, he was instrumental in the newly formed partnership with the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Brian graduated cum laude from Pepperdine University in California with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Political Science.
Ed Coker is a Managing Director in Higginbotham’s Ft. Worth office. He began his insurance career in 1982 when he joined the American General Fire and Casualty Company in Houston, Texas. In 1995, he continued his professional career at The Hartford and Highlands Insurance Group.
He currently sits on the RMI advisory board at UNT, where he was voted the Outstanding Alumnus in RMI in 2008. At Higginbotham, Ed co-founded the Life Science Practice. He also handles various accounts ranging from Private Passage Rail Lines to multi-national paper products facilities. Ed is married to his wife, Jonei, has six children and two grandchildren.
Ed completed his BBA in Risk Management /Insurance at the University of North Texas,is a licensed Risk Manager and a Certified Insurance Counselor.
